Fairytale Of New York video locations
Thanks to Jack R for spotting this PopSpots page. See where Fairytale was filmed and marvel at how things have (and haven’t) changed over thirty years.
Now I Want a Boy Like That
Here’s co-writer Alan Lee Shaw’s demo recording of the unreleased song “A Boy Like That”.
Christmas Wishes from Jean MacColl
Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.
Jamie and Louis are here. Louis told me that ‘Fairy Tale’ might get to no 1 in this year’s charts. Has to be done before Christmas.
I am still working on a memorial for Kirsty. A few interesting but unfinished musicals have come my way.
It was great to see all the photos from Kirstyfest and my thanks to all those who take it on and make it a success each year. There seems to be a new generation joining us.
With love
Jean
Kirstyfest on Sunday 9th October 2016
All over for another year Kirsty fans ….. here is Kirsty’s mum’s message:
Hello everybody,
Please sing loudly in the square so I can hear you. I am very sorry to miss you all this year but sadly age is catching up with me. I hope to get news of the event later and maybe Louis will send some photos. He and Jamie will both be there. As promised I have continued the battle for a memorial in Cozumel for Kirsty. So far no news to report. Meanwhile let’s celebrate Kirsty‘s life and songs. Thinking of you all.
Love Jean
More at https://www.facebook.com/groups/552711574916196/ – if you want to catch up this is where you should head next …
Meet at Kirsty’s bench in Soho Square at 12noon on Sunday 9th October. There will be a speech and a good old sing-song before heading to The Phoenix Artist Club, 1 Phoenix Street (just off Charing Cross Road) for more celebrations.
Please make yourself known to our ‘resident’ guitarist Terry Hurley if you would like to perform a song– either singing or playing, or both!
We are very lucky to have the chance to hear a previously unreleased demo of ‘You broke my heart in 17 places’! Thanks to Mark Nevin.
There will also be the chance to buy a cd for £5 of a 60 minute interview courtesy of and copywritten to rock journalist John Tobler who interviewed Kirsty back in 1989 for the release of ‘Kite’. It was never used at the time but it is a great little interview that captures Kirsty perfectly. John will explain more on the day.
We have a new quiz master this year. Neil Partridge is taking the mic (not literally) to test our knowledge, so I hope you are brushing up on your Kirsty trivia!
Finally, please check your London travel links here:

Interview in New York
November 2, 1990. Kirsty was interviewed at the Charisma offices by John Giotto, and you can listen to it here.
The photos were taken by Kerry Cort.
RIP Terry Wogan
Let’s not forget that in addition to all his other National Treasureness, the Wogan TV show provided a handy platform for musicians of the day. Here is Kirsty performing Days on the Wogan Show in 1989.
Another Vid from the Vaults
Thanks again to Alan Lee Shaw for posting another long unseen Kirsty gem …
I don’t think I’d stay around here if it wasn’t for you
Thanks to Alan Lee Shaw for posting this to get us properly into the mood! A previously unknown gem of a clip 🙂
(and to Terry for drawing my attention to it 🙂
Tread Lightly into 2016
Go, Karmus Smith! A new cover for a new year.
“Published on Jan 2, 2016, Covering Tread Lightly by Kirsty MacColl, one of my very favorite artists. RIP, Kirsty. Though you are passed beyond, your music remains with us. (Song written by Kirsty MacColl and Pete Glenister. I own no rights to this. Will remove upon appropriate request.)”
