All over for another year Kirsty fans ….. here is Kirsty’s mum’s message:
Hello everybody,
Please sing loudly in the square so I can hear you. I am very sorry to miss you all this year but sadly age is catching up with me. I hope to get news of the event later and maybe Louis will send some photos. He and Jamie will both be there. As promised I have continued the battle for a memorial in Cozumel for Kirsty. So far no news to report. Meanwhile let’s celebrate Kirsty‘s life and songs. Thinking of you all.
Love Jean

Meet at Kirsty’s bench in Soho Square at 12noon on Sunday 9th October. There will be a speech and a good old sing-song before heading to The Phoenix Artist Club, 1 Phoenix Street (just off Charing Cross Road) for more celebrations.
Please make yourself known to our ‘resident’ guitarist Terry Hurley if you would like to perform a song– either singing or playing, or both!
We are very lucky to have the chance to hear a previously unreleased demo of ‘You broke my heart in 17 places’! Thanks to Mark Nevin.
There will also be the chance to buy a cd for £5 of a 60 minute interview courtesy of and copywritten to rock journalist John Tobler who interviewed Kirsty back in 1989 for the release of ‘Kite’. It was never used at the time but it is a great little interview that captures Kirsty perfectly. John will explain more on the day.
We have a new quiz master this year. Neil Partridge is taking the mic (not literally) to test our knowledge, so I hope you are brushing up on your Kirsty trivia!

‘They don’t know’ is so good that it is virtually ‘bombproof’ and will continue to be so in the hands of any half-decent singer. Its simplicity, message, hook, chorus and melody offer up great raw material for a variety of artists, so each version leads to a ‘new freshness’ being discovered each time it’s recorded. Regardless of my varied musical tastes, I still find any take on it to be interesting, listenable & insightful. This tune carries a rare empathy which can’t fail to come through in the delivery, regardless of whose point-of-view is being emphasized. You find in this song whatever YOU are looking for, and that’s why it’s so special. It is damn well lyrically perfect, but more than that, it creates and sustains believable emotions, empathy & even tenderness. When you hear this, you feel something real andthentic, which is why this song is so good. Kirsty wrote many great songs, but to me, if this was all she ever wrote, then her legacy is assured. It deserves to be. And one more thing – the lyric…..” ‘Cos they don’t know about us, and they’ve never heard of love”..these are the absolute clincher lines in this song, which elevate it to the level of sublime pop, in my opinion. Why? Bese this couplet simply and ingeniously makes any listener instantly recall the feeling they had when there really was a ‘me & you’ only and for a time at least, nobody else existed. To write about the essence of love is difficult for even the best poets (maybe it’s well nigh impossible), but these two lines eloquently remind us that each perspective we have is unique, it’s ours only, so it can’t truly be understood by outsiders, particularly in matters of the heart. Sheer genius of the heart, Kirsty. RIP.
Quick note to Claire – thanks for a superb Fest! Kirsty made it safely back to mine so she is in good hands until next year unless you want her sooner. David.X
