Sadly Kirsty’s mother Jean passed away on 16th May 2017, bringing an end to her tireless campaigning for Kirsty against all the odds. On top of her own long and illustrious career in dance, movement and theatre. A mighty woman – if you have not read her autobiography you should do so. Her body had been failing for a long time but her mind was still as sharp as ever.
“Please keep up the fight – Jean MacColl, May 2017”
I lost track of June’s campaign. What a shame. Kirsty’s songs are endless even though Kirsty x June do not enure now. Kirsty would always be more concerned with the plight of Syrian children, rather than her own, x realising the inequity of what happened to her x her boys x to Syrians x others . . .that’s what made her Great, pointing up all inequities by the craft of her brilliant words.
Just read this I didn’t know Jean had passed away, the poor woman may she rest in peace x
Very sad news to hear of here passing, being from Lincolnshire as well, however I never did know her personally.
I will continue to try to get justice for her talented daughter ??
So sad x
One of the strongest people I’ve ever met, and a source of inspiration to so many. I will always remember her with fondness and admiration.
Very sad to read news of jeans passing, as a former classmate of Kirsty’s I met Jean many times in the 70’s and latterly at the kirstyfests and to my surprise she remembered me after many years.
A lady of great character sorely missed
I am so sorry to hear such sad news. My heart felt condolences to Hamish, Louis, Jamie and all the family and close friends , Kirstyfest at the bench won’t be quite the same anymore. Thinking of you all at this very sad time. Love to all.
I am so sad to hear of Jean’s passing. She worked so hard and tirelessly to get justice for Kirsty despite constant heart break at losing her btiful ghter. Jean always returned my emails quickly and with affection. A lovely woman.
Sad to hear about Jean’s passing. I’ve met her a couple of times at Kirstyfest and she was lovely. She was a strong woman who fought for justice. My heart goes out to her family.
