NAVIGATION

Stuck? This little page explains how the site navigation works.

Site Navigation

Hopefully everything is pretty straightforward. There are a couple of "hidden" techniques however, but first a quick overview:

Structure

The freeworld site is composed of four "channels":

Information

The Information Pages are at the heart of freeworld. Together with the Music Pages they comprise by far the bulk of the site material. Everything you should want to know about Kirsty's life & times is here. It incoporates News, Interviews & Articles, the "Six Degrees of Kirsty" Connections, Live Gig Guide history, Strange Facts, Memorial activities.

Music

Together with the Information Pages they comprise by far the bulk of the site material. Everything you should want to know about Kirsty's recording career is here. Incorporates a full Discography plus details of all albums, singles, rarities, remixes, backing vocals, cover versions, lyrics & guitar chords.

Gallery

The Gallery is a showcase for some of Kirsty's work, using streaming real audio to illustrate her career in sound. It is also the home of the photo and video stills collections.

Visitor Centre

The Visitor Centre is a collection of facilities aimed at giving you access to other Kirsty fans, and letting you contribute to the online archive which is freeworld. Access the Forum, Guestbook, Kirstycards, links, Yahoo Group & online shopping links.

Breadcrumbs

Your current location within freeworld is shown in the "Crumb Bar" at the top of every page (apart from the home page, which displays the most recent modification date). For example, this page displays "Home > Navigation Notes" to show that you are where you are. The deeper you get into freeworld the longer the Crumb Bar gets!

It is not a true breadcrumb system in that it does not display your own history through the site, rather it is a positional aid to show where you are relative to the home page. It is however a navigational tool - If you are in the depths of the site (say reading about the musicians on Kite, and your breadcrumb is showing "Home > Music > Albums > Kite > Musicians ", if you want to go to the main "Music" or "Albums" page you can simply select the appropriate link from the breadcrumb trail.

Go Home

[ Go Home ]Select the freeworld logo at the top left of any page (apart from the home page) to be taken straight to the freeworld home page.

Go UP one level

[Go up a level] If you are in the depths of the site (say reading about the musicians on Kite, and your breadcrumb is showing "Home > Music > Albums > Kite > Musicians ", if you simply want to move back up to the main Kite page you can select the zoomed in "I LIKE KIRSTY" badge in the top right of every page (except the home page). This link ought to take you up ONE level from wherever you are in the site. It is not (or should not be!) random in its behaviour. If you repeatedly select this link you will inevitably be returned in time to the freeworld home page.

Note that there is a "pseudo layer" between the Home Page and the main Channel Index pages. In other words, if you are viewing the Information Index, the "Up a Level" button will take you not to the Home Page, but to the Site Map. We think this is slightly more useful.

Related Links

At the foot of every page is a set of "related" links to other pages. The content of these tends to be position dependent: if you are browsing the main "Information" index page, they will reflect the other major site categories. Once you are down and dirty in the lyrics pages they will reflect useful pages of interest, for example the lyrics page for "El Paso" has links to guitar chords for the song as well as a page about its author, Marty Robbins. It all depends where you are and how diligently we have identified useful resources!

Foot of Page Links

Right at the foot of every page are some standard links - these will take you either to the freeworld home page, the top of the current page (useful in some of the longer interviews) or the overall Site Map, which has some links not shown on the home page for reasons of space.

Photographs

Some photos have a larger version if you select them, others don't. It all depends whether we have a larger copy to bring up, and whether we think the image is worthy of such treatment or not.

Printing

The odd little comment at the foot of each page is to warn you that when you print out a page it will not look the same as when you're viewing it. This is intended as a good thing. You don't typically want to see menus and so on when you print, rather the article itself. So voila! Individual items can be made "print invisible" as well so the occasional large photo etc. may vanish for no apparent reason ... but that's why.

E-Mail

[Send E-mail] Select the little mailbox icon at the top right of every page to send e-mail to freeworld.

Page Style

We support user definable styles. Obviously with a capable browser, you are free to change the way the site is displayed for you already. We provide as an additional service a range of alternative views:
